Because the right heel should make you feel as good as you look.

There is something about a great pair of heels. They can change the way an outfit falls, add polish to even the simplest look and make us feel instantly more put together. But true confidence in heels isn't only about how they look — it is also about how they feel.

When a heel fits properly and feels secure beneath you, you move differently. You are not thinking about whether your foot is slipping forward, where the next chair is or how soon you can take your shoes off. You can simply enjoy wearing them. And for us, that is what wearing heels with confidence is really about.

Why the Right Heel Matters

When we wear heels, the position of the foot changes and more pressure is placed towards the front of it. This doesn't mean heels should be avoided, but it does mean that the design and fit of the shoe matter.

It is also why two shoes with exactly the same heel height can feel completely different. One may have you counting the minutes until you can take it off, while another feels far easier to wear. The difference isn't always the height of the heel; it can be how the shoe has been designed and how well that particular shape works with your foot.

So, when looking for an everyday heel, the answer isn't necessarily to choose a lower heel.

It is to choose a better heel.

What Makes a Better Heel?

A better heel is one that works with your foot, giving you a thoughtful balance of support, stability and comfort without asking you to compromise on style.

We naturally notice heel height first, but there is much more worth considering. The shape and position of the heel, the way the shoe holds your foot, the construction of the sole and the cushioning underfoot can all change how a pair feels.

A broader or block heel, for example, can provide a more stable base and still look beautifully elegant. That doesn't mean a slimmer heel cannot be wearable. When a shoe feels well balanced beneath your foot, a more delicate heel can be a wonderful option too.

Then look at how the shoe actually holds your foot. Adjustable buckles allow you to find a more secure fit, while ankle or slingback straps can help keep the foot in place. A wider strap across the front of a sandal can give the forefoot more coverage and help reduce that feeling of sliding forward. They may seem like small design details, but together they can make a noticeable difference to how wearable a heel feels.

Cushioning is worth looking for too, particularly beneath the ball of the foot, where greater pressure can be felt when wearing heels. And don't forget the toe shape. We love an elegant pointed shoe as much as anyone, and choosing wearability certainly doesn't mean giving it up. What matters is finding a shape that works for your foot and gives it the space it needs.

And, of course, walk in them. Give yourself more than a few steps towards the mirror. A beautiful heel needs to work when you're moving, not just when you're standing still admiring it.

Beautiful, Yes. But Wearable Too.

This is something that matters when we choose shoes for My Shoe Shop.

We don't select a heel simply because it looks beautiful. We look at whether it is a shoe we believe can genuinely be worn and enjoyed. We notice the proportions, the way it holds the foot, the straps and adjustability, the stability of the heel and all those seemingly small details that can make a beautiful shoe much more wearable.

Of course, every foot is different, and the heel that feels wonderful on one person may not be the right shape for another. That is why finding your fit matters so much.

When we select heels for our collection, wearability is always part of the choice.

They Shouldn't Have to Hurt

Most of us have probably bought a pair of shoes while telling ourselves, they'll be fine once I've worn them in.

Shoes can, of course, soften with wear. Beautiful leather in particular can become more supple and gradually mould to the foot. But there is an important difference between a shoe softening and a shoe that simply doesn't fit properly.

Painful pinching, persistent slipping or toes being forced into an uncomfortable position aren't things we should have to accept in the name of style. Your heels should feel promising from the beginning.

Instead of asking only, Do I love how these look?, ask yourself another question too:

Will I love wearing them?

Choose the Heel for the Day Ahead

Shop the look

The perfect heel for dinner doesn't necessarily have the same job as the heel you put on in the morning and wear until the evening. One of the easiest ways to enjoy heels more is simply to choose them with the day ahead in mind.

If you know you will be walking, standing for longer periods or going directly from work to dinner, choose a heel that feels secure and stable on your foot. For an evening where there is less walking involved, you might happily reach for something a little higher or more delicate.

This isn't about putting rules around the shoes we wear. Quite the opposite. Having different heels for different moments means we can enjoy them more. The spectacular pair doesn't need to become an everyday shoe, and an everyday heel certainly doesn't need to be boring.

Confidence Starts With Comfort

Wearing heels well isn't about proving how long you can endure them. It is about knowing what works for you, understanding the shapes that suit your feet and choosing your shoes with a little more care.

So, by all means, fall in love with the beautiful pair. Shoes should bring us joy. But before you take them home, look beyond the colour and silhouette. Notice the details. Think about how they feel, how you walk in them and where you are likely to wear them.

Because the best heels aren't simply the ones you love looking at.

They're the ones you love wearing.

And that is what we mean when we say: wear heels with confidence.

Choose with care. Wear with confidence. Love them for years.
